Welcome our 123soho individual artist, Elena Habicher
Have you ever had a feeling that you want to talk but not with words? Have you ever felt that words are too weak to express something that is deep inside you? There are many ways to express yourself; and I think, I am a lucky person because I have found my way. It is through art.
I have been painting since I was little, but I felt a strong need to express my self through art when I moved to Switzerland. Living in a foreign country I began to feel as if my spirit was being suffocated. In fact, I had no friends, I had to speak a foreign language and , in a way, I had to suppress my emotions. So when I felt down I started to paint. As a result, I started to express myself in a very new way. Perhaps, in the way that I have been looking for all my life.
During these two years I worked on tracing my emotions in my work. I experimented with the use different media and tested new ideas and concepts. I found out for myself that
I want to work with an uncommon medium, window paint, because of its glossy affect and because it enable me to create dimensional shapes. Above all, I refused brushes, canvas and frames in my work. Instead, resisting art traditions, I have invent a new technique- painting on transparent plastic sheets with window and acrylic paints.
I think that the main source of my art is my life experience. Having grown up in Russia I have experienced not only a war, poverty and misfortune, but also happiness, love and friendship. The result has a huge impact on my work. However, it is not my goal to draw just pretty pictures, but to illustrate fragments of our lives or our human nature. In the same way, I try to capture the truth in my works.
The colors, media and subject matter allow me to say things
I can express in no other way. Each work of art encourages me to move on and explore new ideas for the next. Art has become an essential part of my life and being.
