Congratulations to the first five artists selected by our panel for “The Best of 123Soho 2006 Art Show".

They are Chuka Machie, Gabe Kirchheimer, Maria Parmo, Nicolae Comanescu, and Carlo Angelo Saavedra. Please keep in mind that these were culled from over 1,557 works of art, most of which were of very high caliber, and that the submissions were not limited to the United States , but are international in origin.
The order in which the artists are being displayed, is not indicative of the quality of the work.
The next 5 artists will be displayed in March.

Chuka Machie
I like to play with line because of its possibility to express symbols infinitely and produce varied forms. It is the fountainhead of creativity.Line for me is the rythmic pulse of life.

Gabe Kirchheimer
“I worked as a magazine art director for 10 years before picking up a camera in 1985,
and switched careers to make more of a social impact. Now, as when I began
shooting, I focus on two main themes: nontraditional spiritual events, which are
mostly ignored by the media; and surrealistic natural environments — the man-made
shaping of the landscape.

Maria Parmo
My painting is a construction that becomes from two previous constructive processes:
-The first process is based on the search of two pictoric forms chosen from remains of paintings that arranged arbitrarily over card-board give as a result a collage.
-The second process is to convert the collage in drawing taking out color and texture preserving only the lines. Combining the drawings between themselves new forms are
generated (this time graphics), as well as the lineal structure that contains them.

Nicolae Comanescu
Nicolae Comanescu is an artist living and working in Bucharest, Romania.
His primary medium is painting combined with elements of digital manipulated photography and video art. These paintings act as re-combinatory windows. Stylistically speaking it's about subway freezine aesthetics, popneodada, infrared vision, downtown situationism, billboard serialism, Naboo Neo-Byzantinism, Romanian Neo-Mexicanism and German Neo-Expressionism (that's a bit over the top), applied on a sudden cargo-cult mood.
