My paintings are neither abstract nor representational. Or they are both. They might be called abstract paintings with feet of clay. They are not interested in the sublime. They are rooted on this earth and celebrate concrete life. In order to create a lyrical yet firm space where lines and forms work for one another, I had to invent a new medium.
I use dry pigments which are applied repeatedly with palette knife, kneaded into wet, semi-wet, almost dry oil painting surface until the painting acquires what I call "CORPUS", a body, its physicality, earthiness, breathing. When a painting achieves deep fresco like look and comes alive with elements reaching for one another, I hear a click in my head telling me I've got the painting.
