Welcome 123soho Featured Artist, Takeshi Kawashima.

The noted contemporary artist from Kagawa Prefecture, Takeshi Kawashima, had been working and exhibiting in Tokyo since just after World War II, before moving to New York City in 1963. He was fascinated by the privileged status of the New York art world and the overwhelming creativity of its artists.

Kawashima’s one-of-a-kind symbols – which became more simplified later on – are in continual interaction with each other, connecting and separating, combining in bright colors; they flood out from the canvas with gentle rhythms. His work has been exhibitied at The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Walter Wickiser Gallery, New York; Chrysler Art Museum, Massachusetts; Tokyo Metroplitan Museum of Art, Tokyo; Tokyo National Museum of Art, Tokyo; Kyoto National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto; Kagawa Prefectural Cultural Museum, Takamatsu; and more.
