Todd, I believe I may have the original \"Christ Church Gateway, Pilgrim Lane, Canterbury Cathedral\" (in blue ink lower left) that I believe traces back to Mary Quinn Sulivan\'s collection and passed down through family relatives. Is this possible. I\'d like some bio info on your grandfather if possible. Dennis

This message is for Todd Warner, #26569, post on 02/04/2007. Last weekend I acquired 3 watercolors by your grandfather, signed: Al.Mettel~, (1)Lincoln Cathedral, (2)St.Ann\'s Gate, Salisburg, Eng, and (3)Porte Guillaume Chartres. All 3 are signed and appear to be authentic watercolors. Can you give me any information as to the where abouts of the 3 original paintings, such as a gallery, museum and such. Along with the dates they were painted and where. Did he paint actual places or from pictures? I have found some information online about your grandfather but not much. Please tell me all you can about him and these 3 paintings. I have dated the custom frames to the first half of the 1900s. They are beautiful and I look forward to hearing from you and all the background you can give me on them. Also, there is a reference to a posting you did on here, can you let me know where to find it or repost it. Thanks

To Todd Warner, #26569 response. As I understand you are Al Mettels\' grandson. I just found a beautiful porint of the Borda Church in Taxco, Mexico. There\'s a signature, right corner, and left corner has a brand - like a copyright (C), and right below B&B. Any information you can give me is greatly appreciated. His work captures the essence of the place and time... it\'s like entering the road toward the church, and seeing the people chatting in a circle, others milling about, even the clouds could move! It\'s lovely. I have it in a special place, but would love to have a little history of the man, the artist... curious. Such a beautiful painting - should have a story of the man to go with the painting. Thank you for sharing. With regards.

In spite of many letters and much interest shown in this artist, I don\'t see any response from his grandson, or anyone else.. Hi, I would like some information about a print? It is \"Mission Dolores\" (script) and underneath is printed San Fanscisco on the left hand bottom. It is signed Al Mettel on the lower RH side. The print is on paper that is 8 3/4 X 11 5/8 What is interesting about this is it appears to be paper from an artist tablet, yet in the lower LH corner is a copywright mark, circle c over a B&B. Any information on this picture would be appreciatted. Do not want to try and remove from frame as it is fairly old frame. Mat looks to have been made to fit the picture and is raised around the picture

Todd - I am creating a document on Northern Pacific RR and Yellowstone Park. Al Mettel created images for the Yellowstone Park Camps Co. in the mid 1920\'s. Do you have a bio of his life and any images of Yellowstone you could share with me?

I just acquired a piece titled Canterbury Cathedral, Christ Church Gate, Pilgrims Lane, and signed Al Mettel in the same blue ink at the bottom corners. Can you give me some insight as to the age of the piece and if the blue ink indicates your grandfather actually signed it?

To Al Mettel\'s grandson. I have what looks to be a lithograph by Al Mettel. It looks like maybe a picture of Holland. Theres water and an arch bridge. It does not have a name on the picture just his signature. On the frame back it was given to a lady in July 1930. Do you know anything about this picture. Could you email me and I will send you a picture of it?

Thank you,

I am searching for any information I could find on some unusual color etchings by Mattel that I have. I\'m a total amature and know nothing about art or etchings. What makes these unusual to me is the way they are mounted. They are between a piece of wood and plate glass. The border of the glass is mirrored and reverse painted to give the appearance of a frame as shown in the picture below. I got these from a 92 year old aunt that recently passed and I know that she had them for forty or more years. Any information on these or where I might look to find information would be greatly appreciated.......Jim
