Background

W
ithin my self, I see my work as a form of meditation, meditation in the creating of the piece and on the subjects also. I reach to show the underlying atmospheres that come from the subjects, the emotions, the chaos, the simplicity, the gesture, the beauty, thoughts and behavior. The concepts usually involve people or parts of the human body, religious and spiritual figures and symbolism, animals, temples and buildings. Often times the paintings also incorporate texts in different languages such as Japanese, Chinese, Tibetan, Sanskrit, Ialian, French, Icelandic and English. Often times there are astrological symbols and graphs, mathmatical figures, or scientific sysmbols involved. All of the writen texts and symbols have a major role in the painting's process and with the atmosphere and emotions of the situation and the individual model or place itself. In some of my work I discard everything except for the human figure, or part of it. With these works I have been using a hyper-self-disciplinary technique in which I am mimicking a computer image by hand. With these pieces I am trying to convey the idea of human versus computer and the infusion of the two, the aim for perfection.
Most of my work is inspired by Asian art, surrealism and pop art, though melting them together. In my works also comes across the idealistics view of no race or colour in the individuals that are portrayed within them. I still see within everyday life the subtleness of the race barrier still in place, with my art I have deconstructed it in the simplest form I could. I also combined different religious sybolism and texts in many of my works, Christian sybolism with Buddhist or Hindu texts to help explore and understand the images of God and the cultures that we have created around them.
Many of the works are more interactive than a simple painting, they invoke thoughts and questions about the sybolism and the interaction with the viewer, and subconsciously the viewer helps in realizing the subliminal meaning of that particular piece of art. These are also subjects of many of my other works which I expore in the fields of Text, Sound and Music, Film, Performance, Spoken word and Dance. |
