Background

M
ark Planisek worked for over 15 years as a graphic artist and illustrator with such organizations as NASA and Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, and several other companies and corporations along the way. During this period Planisek learned to apply the art of traditional photography to his fine art which he did in his time when he wasn't at his day job. This is where he started his most prominent photo collage style.
Since then, he has developed and evolved this particular collage medium into layered, surrealistic, compositions. The complex, fractured scenes seem to question how we see and understand things, as well as how we are seen and understood by others.
Though he composes his works using a variety of media, photography is one of the most important resources in Planisek's creative toolbox. In fact he often describe his mixed media pieces as 'portraits'. Planisek was schooled traditionally in drawing and painting, but it was the camera and its ability to mirror life that captivated his interest.
Mark Planisek wan born in 1959, Cleveland, Ohio.
His current collection demonstrates the merging of hi fine arts background with the more technical world of photography. |

Mark and I were in the same art/class program throughout High School. He always excellled in what he did and enjoyed doing it. His characachers were always right
on. His playful spirit by with his friends Detlef, Paulette, Michelle, Mike, etc. always lightened the class. I am not surprised that he went so far. I regret not getting to know him better.
