Ch'iu Ying (ca. 1494 - 1552), a native of T’ai-ts'ang, Kiangsu, also spent most of his time working as a professional painter in Soochow. After studying landscape and figure painting under Chou Ch'en, he went to develop his own refined, beautiful style, which brought together the best qualities of the various T'ang and Sung masters. In Spring Morning in the Han Palace, Ch'iu utilizes clear and vigorous brushwork to produce a beautiful, complex composition of palace walls and gardens.
