2001/05/05 - 2001/08/05

Mr. Li Mei-shu was a native of San-hsia, Taipei County.  As a child, he was greatly influenced by his father, and developed a strong and abiding interest in art.  In his teenage years, he moved to Japan and studied painting in the Western art department of Tokyo's School of Fine Arts.  Li's deep longing and affection for home can be seen through the many portraits of relatives and various local themes that he painted throughout his long life.  In honor of the hundredth anniversary of his birth, the National Palace Museum is presenting this special exhibit of Li's Portraits of the Land and People.  The exhibition will include a variety of oil paintings, watercolors, ink paintings, and pencil sketches ranging in date from 1919 to 1980.
