S. Graham Sargent has had a varied career.  Born in the east (Montreal, Quebec), she now lives in the west (Calgary, Alberta).  At Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, she earned a degree in physics and math.  After working at Shell Canada Resources for 6 years in research computer programming, she 'retired' and attended Alberta College of Art to pursue her first love: painting.  During her student years, she began to earn money as a court artist, working for several television stations.  At the same time she vigorously pursued her fine art career and began to have solo exhibitions in 1983.   Since then she has had twelve solo exhibitions and has participated in many group shows.

People in court asked her if she did not find herself becoming jaded about life.  Ms. Sargent would shake her head and smile and invite them to her next exhibition where they would be surprised at the joy, light and peace in her work.  Some even said that they felt healing coming from her pieces.  She believes that this comes form her inner connection with Jesus, her Savior, her Anchor.   Her work has been likened to thoughts in the mind or to views of parallel universes.  She tries to tell others about the truths (as she sees them) of LOVE without forcing anything, but rather by celebrating in paint.

When she wrote her thesis in the fourth year, it suddenly dawned on her that the roots of her style of rigid geometric strips containing organic shapes must be the many hours she spent as a child poring over pictures of illuminated manuscripts' pages.

In 1980, Ms. Sargent won an international art competition, and her wok was published in a book printed in Switzerland and sold worldwide.

In 1983, she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for artwork done on behalf of world peace.

Today, Ms. Sargent has work in many private and corporate collections.  She has painted murals for Catholic schools, and has many commissions.  As time passes, her calling to paint and her commitment to do art only strengthens, and she rejoices in them.
