Sister Helen is currently the Art Director of the Southwest Community Enrichment Center in the Kingsessing section of Philadelphia, where she guides artists from 5 to 87 years of age in an open studio which has been a vital part of the center for 10 years. Opened in 1969, the Enrichment Center, non-denominational and supported partially by private and corporate funds, is governed entirely by the multi-cultural but largely African-American community it serves.

Sister Helen David Brancato, IHM, has 25 years of experience in the field of art education on the secondary level as well as working as a painter, printmaker, and illustrator. She has exhibited professionally in the Philadelphia and New York areas. Most often using the medium of print, her work usually carries the themes of justice, peace, and homelessness. She has done freelance work as an illustrator for Maryknoll magazine, Witness magazine and Pax Christi U.S.A. She also illustrated the Orbis publication, Walk with Jesus, in collaboration with Henri Nouwen, and Why Not Become Fire with Evelyn Mattern, Ave Maria Press.

Sister Helen received a B.A. from Immaculata College, and an M.A. in Art Education from Kutztown State University. She has also studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (portrait painting), and the Tyler School of Art of Temple University (etching, painting, printmaking, and drawing).
