| Gerhard Knell was born on August 15, 1962, in Bad Wimpfen, County Heilbronn, Germany. He is married with one child. After high school in 1979, Mr. Knell started receiving training in making printing plates in a print shop until the firm declared bankruptcy. After half a year of unemployment, he began his Civil Service in a psychiatric hospital instead of joining the army. At its conclusion in 1984, he began to train in carpentry at his father's workshop, and worked there until 1987. He ten went to Munich for drawing studies. In 1988, he entered the Free Arts Schools Nurtingen where he took two semesters of painting and graphics. Between 1990 and 1992, he trained as a sculptor at Berufsfachschule Fur Bau Und Gestaltung in Muncih. From 1992 till 1997, he studied painting and Christian Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Fascinated with the possibilities of the computer, he began training in computer graphics in an advertising agency in 1996. Since 1997, Mr. Knell has been working as a freelance painter and graphic artist. He did book illustrations, photo compositions and illustrations for magazines, as well as large scale paintings. He has had several solo and group exhibitions in Germany and France. |
